Melissa Loves: Jen Lobo
I am a huge fan of Jen's and am so captivated by the mythical quality her paintings have for me. Each piece almost seems like something out of a dream, except the dream is crystal clear and sumptuously detailed.
I love the rich colors, rounded edges and almost glistening quality to the images. Like a beautiful storybook with only a moment told. I look at Jen's " Chromo Thieves" and think of decadence, opulence, beauty and summer time (peacocks say summer to me for some reason).
Jen kindly got back to me about what inspires her (and this piece in particular) and what she sees when she looks at it.

"It is probably quite obvious from my work that I am obsessed with Natural History and zoology. I especially love really antiquated theories about animals and animal folklore. Before modern technology, theories about the natural world were so much more interesting! I also love the way children explain things about the world. The imagination at work is much more powerful than the critical, analytical side. This particular painting was inspired by that sort of spirit. The idea was that the Peacock Butterflies had stolen the pigment of a peacock turning him white. "

"I think when I look at the painting I feel a little sorry for the peacock. In a way, his beauty has been stolen....although I think White Peacocks are just as beautiful." (photo via: blueflipart)
Jen, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions and giving us a little insight into your beautiful and magical world!
