"You fit here" - doesn't everyone desire to hear those 3 words uttered just for them at some point in their life? You fit, you belong, you are just where you should be. To me of course, it also speaks of profound love and acceptance. To Heather Smith Jones it too speaks of "someone who fills a space in a person's life".
Heather's work truly moves me and at a prolific rate! Everyday it seems she has a new piece up on her flickr page and in her shop, and each one is as fresh and thought provoking as the last. "This summer I am inspired by noticing some intricacies of the leaves and flowers in my garden. In "you fit here" I drew part of the clover and before finishing all the leaves I stopped and imagined something else completing the space."
To me Heather's messages are tender and quiet. "I see this piece as a delicate and sincere conversation, one that is almost whispered." Heather often uses recurring images (dots of color or painstaking pinholes) but, somehow makes each one new and radiant. I am drawn to the mix of subtle color in her work and of course, the evocative words or phrases that I often find extremely comforting. All of this and I am not even covering Heather's pinhole work! Time and patience, and Heather's talented fingers, work magic with a tiny little pin and create pieces like this: eight petaled flower and this wallpaper pinhole project. Some of Heather's work is so small it fits in the palm of your hand and when you hold one in person you feel like you have a precious secret, a moment captured and held forever, just for you... it makes you smile.
" Thank you so much Melissa for asking me to be part of your feature. I admire what you and Ez do here to promote artists."
We thank YOU, Heather! For your talent, your answers and for letting the sunshine in.
