I recently had the opportunity to talk to Tracey, co-founder and buyer for Delight.com, and I asked her a few questions about her fabulous site and the vision behind it all. Delight.com is a truly unique shopping experience. How did the concept for your site first take shape and what are three of your favorite things about the site you have built?
I’m glad you think Delight.com is unique…that’s exactly what we set out to do! My partner Lynda and I are avid internet shoppers, but we always felt that something was missing…there is a general impersonality when shopping online. We took a long hard look at online shopping and then asked ourselves “What do we really want out of an online store?” From there we created Delight: a fast-paced, ever-changing selection of hand-picked products that are beautifully designed, insanely useful and of course – affordable.
Delight was truly created from the heart. We wanted to offer that same feeling you get when going into your favorite neighborhood boutique, while providing accessible and convenient way to shop for today’s busy woman.
Three of your favorite things about the site?
1) Our product selection.
As the buyer for Delight, I have to say I am really proud of the varied and unique mix of merchandise we offer. It’s not too often a retailer can say she stands behind ALL of her merchandise, but that’s the case with us. We pass on a lot of stuff we don’t feel is worthy of our customer’s hard-earned money…even if it’s a trendy item that is sold a lot of other places. In the short time since Delight has launched (March 2007) we’ve really gotten to know our dedicated customers, and I feel like we offer fun, fresh and unique items you can’t find anywhere else.
On that same note, I am really proud of our eco-friendly offerings as well. This is a personal passion for me, and Delight has oodles of useful items (that are still quite pretty!) which enable all of us to make small daily changes towards becoming a bit more green.
2) Our Daily Featured Item
I love that you can come to Delight every day at Noon CST and check out what’s new. Our site is really fun to browse and read, which makes it a nice place to go if you need a short “work break.” You can vote and comment on the Daily Featured Item, you can read an in-depth write up about it, and you can travel through other areas of the site through our ever-changing gift guide area. It’s fun!
3) Our customer service
Another personal passion of mine. I want to make sure that you feel your money is well spent on Delight, which means we’re here to answer questions and help in any way. Do we make mistakes? You bet we do. But we’re very quick to admit them and make it right. I think most of our customers would agree you’re treated like a real person at Delight, and not just an order #. Our customer service start with the beautifully packed box you receive and ends with a survey making sure your experience was perfect. We’re a bit obsessed. Like I said earlier, it all goes back to treating people how we all want to be treated.

Do you have a favorite quote or inspired words that you live by?
I have a lot of different mantras I live by, but if there is one word that keeps me in check, it’s “PASSION”. Once that’s gone – in any part of your life – you might as well throw in the towel. Everything I do I try to ask myself “is this something I’m really passionate about?”…it keeps me motivated, happy and focused. It’s true my passion for perfecting and growing Delight.com borders on obsession at times…but we can discuss that later. ;)
